Ever wondered where we got that secret styling tip you were so excited to try last time you walked out of the salon… Were you ever curious as to how your designer delved out that new, fresh cut you fell in love with?

Question no longer! We’ll let you “behind the scenes” to experience the backstage work, classes and training that help make it all happen.   We are proud to say a majority of design knowledge comes from within our own walls.

From image workshops and clipper cutting intensives with Michael to styling and consult classes with Hope, Sean and Ti, live demonstrations and detailed efficiency are just a few examples of what inspire Mango Designers to create.  Color theory courses with Cathy, HeadMapping conception led by Kim, and the next Classic Cutting Series with Melvyn provide our team with ample resources on the latest training and concepts.

Design is about making things good, then better. It’s about making them right, then fantastic. Your look and style are no exception; you drive the passion to further knowledge in this exciting field!

Katia walking our Guest Services group through the Aveda styling products

This time it’s not only our hair designers, but our Guest Services team that is able to join in the excitement as well. Jumping headfirst into the textbooks of Aveda theory, Guest Services Leader, Katia Brock, guided the team through basic to extensive product knowledge in an efficient and constructive class last week. Feel free to pop in with any hair or skin care questions you may have between appointments; our front desk will certainly be armed with ample know-how.  Thanks Katia!

On the designer side of the classroom, two distinguished educators flew in this past weekend with some stimulating ideas and training in color. Jeffrey Via taught a Deep Color class at Short Pump that included thorough instruction on the “Aveda way” of formulation.  “It was my third class with Jimmy, and I continue to learn new and exciting things every time,” says apprentice Yvahn Karp. “He is extremely educated in [Aveda] product and theory, and has that ability to pass his knowledge on to all different levels.” The class also included the reveal of new scalp and hair treatments within the Damage Remedy and Dry Remedy hair care lines.

At our Libbie/Grove location Jimmy Gergenti led an innovative Hair Color Magic class, inspiring new ways of fine tuning when it comes to color. According to Master Artisan Ti Lemon, “This class is one you can take multiple times, unlocking something new and understanding more and more each time.”  Lemon noticed a sense of enlightenment among the rest of the team, stating that “it was nice to see the little light bulbs going off here and there across the room.” Innovator Lindsey Baker agrees, saying “[Jimmy] makes everything click.” With rave reviews from the team, models and guests, there is no doubt we’ll see both Jeffrey and Jimmy returning to Mango soon!

Melvyn Ainger’s Mango Fresh Talent ingénues completed the last of their six part continuing education class with him this week.  The classes, designed to sharpen their cutting skills, were once a month for two days each & came to a close this Monday.  Have we seen the last of Melvyn?  Doubtful.  We’re so happy to have him share his knowledge with us, we hope to have him here as often as possible.  Thanks Melvyn!

Guess who came to town?  We’re always grateful when the marvelous master of hair, Geno Chapman, makes the 3,000 mile trip to teach at Mango Salon.  This month’s stop was no different.  Geno flew in from LA to teach an advanced cutting class to a select number of the Mango crew.  This class focused on layer techniques that make each hair cut unique & framing to the individual who sports it.  Here’s what the designers had to say:

“I learned small techniques that really reminded me how important refinement is to a great cut.”

“Geno’s concave layered technique was amazing.  The way he explains things…it just clicked with me.  It was a great experience.”

As always, it’s a pleasure to have you.  Thanks Geno!

Aveda Academy Instructor, Geno Chapman, arrived from LA last weekend to teach our Master Artisans a lesson or two in new innovative cutting!  This two day class focused primarily on using “cutting” edge techniques to create classic but up to date looks, meeting the challenge of this season’s hottest trends.  Here’s what our designer’s had to say:

“Geno really inspired me.  He made me step outside my box and I feel renewed!” – Jamie

“He’s an excellent instructor.  He reintroduced some long forgotten but classic techniques that made the class informative but still fun.” – Chris

“So inspirational!  He really looks at hair like art & he helped me see it that way too.” – Dana
