Mango’s Monday Obsession: Rockabilly Chic

ROCKABILLY CHIC

Retro fit styles for guys and gals in the 21st century.

Since the Met Gala’s recent “punk” theme hit the red carpet, we’ve found ourselves swooning over certain punk-rockabilly hairstyles.

The rockabilly hair revival has gradually gained momentum over the last few years, with the display of 1930′s/50′s-inspired hair for both men and women. The message is clear: rockabilly – specifically rockabilly hair – is still here.  It remains a key vintage-revival hairstyle of 2013.

Designers including Jil Sander and Thomas Maier (pictured above on the left) have had models sporting dramatic rolls with loose pony-tails. Brigitte Bardot (pictured above right) is an iconic inspiration for voluminous, seductive hair.  As fashion continues working full-circle to revive past decades, her style is one worth mastering, and adapting, year after year.

Male models from a Bottega Veneta show (pictured directly left and right) experimented with the rockabilly style through long, reverse curled pompadours (also known as ‘ducktails’) and short sides.

The present incarnation of rockabilly isn’t the only resurgence since the 50′s age of glamour, but has been on and off trend many times since its inception. Now gracing the covers of magazines and street corners alike, this fluid style is quick to be adopted by statement-makers and bold fashion devotees.

Cameron Diaz Met Gala 2013

Do you think Ms. Diaz stuns with understated hair, balancing out her extreme spiked belt?

Solange Met Gala 2013

Did Solange add a new 70's angle to the "punk" theme?

Marion Cotillard Met Gala 2013

We love some Marion, but do light pink and soft waves really fit into the punk genre?

Lily Collins Met Gala 2013

Did our favorite "brow-goddess" go a little too far with those brows?

Nicole Richie Met Gala 2013

Can you appreciate Nicole's bold silver... Or are you just getting bad X-Men flashbacks?

Anne Hathaway Met Gala 2013

We loved Anne's bleached blonde rocker chic! What do you think?

Mango’s Monday Obsession: Then → Now Trend… Bold Brows

Forget those thin, high lines.  Brows have never been bolder!

There has been a recent revolution in the art of eyebrow maintenance, and it seems more people are realizing the folly of their former “tweezer-happy ways.”

For those of us who’ve made the all too common error of over-plucking, there is redemption!

From custom “Brow-hab”  shaping consultations that get you back on the right track, to threading and precise waxing, our brow specialists will the look perfect for you.

The daughter of Phil Collins, Lily Collins, is the latest advocate for natural, bold brows.

Actress and model Brooke Shields made these bold brows famous in the 80's.
